Wasp spider

Argiope bruennichi – Wasp spider

This is one of the spiders I see a lot around this time.

It looks a little bit scary, but their focus is insects rather than humans. They catch and eat everything that gets stuck to their web.

Every now and then I see a smaller brown spider that has woven his own web next to her.

I learned that he’s the male one who tries to mate with her.

When you don’t use chemical fertilizers/pesticides or machines and you leave the dried plant material from summer over the winter, you create a natural habitat for insects and the ecological balance will eventually be restored.
